Boland Cellars was named Overseas Producer of the Year at Mundus Vini 2005. A total of 48 national and international competitions have been won in the last eight years, 21 double gold medals and 104 gold medals! The Pinotage grape variety was crossed from Pinot Noir and Cinsault (Hermitage) in South Africa in 1925 and is considered “the” typical red grape of South Africa. This award-winning red wine is produced from grapes harvested exclusively by hand from the Paardeberg appellation.
Grape varieties:
100% Pinotage
Maturation:
After fermentation in steel tanks, half of the wine was aged in French oak and half in American oak.
Tasting:
An appealing, fruity, medium-bodied red wine with varietal hints of banana, plum and chocolate. On the palate, impressions of ripe red berries are accompanied by a velvety mouthfeel of soft tannins.
Recommendation from the sommelier:
This harmonious red wine is an excellent “soloist” - but it is also great fun as a food companion. Salad, pasta, steaks - its soft tannins make it suitable for many dishes.
