On July 2, 1854, Gustav Thier, Baron v. Hövel and Heinrich Sonnenschein signed the partnership agreement to found the brewery and malt house “von Hövel, Thier & Co”.
It is a clear commitment to the old art of brewing that the founder, Baron v. Hövels, was the inspiration for the name of the Hövels brewery. The recipe for the original bitter beer has a tradition going back over 100 years. It is a tasty treat from the past to enjoy this beer in the ambience of the Hövels brewery. 100 years ago, the beers on offer were quite sweet. As Hövels deviated from this general taste trend, the name bitter beer was soon born. Today, “fine Hövels” is brewed again according to the original recipe, which has been handed down over the years, using the finest raw materials. It is certainly no wonder that Hövels Original Bitterbier has exactly met the taste of today's beer connoisseurs. Hövels has discovered a new independent taste, making every glass a unique pleasure.
So let's take a hearty sip to the good old days and to what they can still give us today.
We are delighted to be able to offer you this specialty beer fresh from the barrel.
