A story of the sauna

According to several insecure sources most Finns think that they or rather their ancestors invented the cult institution sauna. (Presumably in a rather cold winter, when every household was only allowed to heat up one singular room of the house on basis of governmental energy economic measures... but these are simple specs...)

Thereby aforesaid Finns disregarded the absolutely unrelevant fact that also the old and young Romans had already let themselves be inspired of colloborative perspiration in a closed room at the bloom of the oldlatin culture. Also in the old Greece of Platon, Sokrates and Aristoteles this way of relaxing and the possibility of undisturbed communication behind the vapours were known and appreciated.

But who is interested in historic correct background information if you can make such good jokes about the Finns and "their" sauna...???

• The Finns say: "A sauna without steam is as if you were sitting under the sun of the Sahara." Who has experienced the originial finish smoke-sauna with its intensive extractions can surely affirm this.

• Finland is the only country in the world where you find more saunas than cars. They have one sauna for 3,5 inhabitants. Traditionally the sauna was built first, and then the house.

• Wheresoever three or more Finns meet, there will be a sauna within 3 weeks.

• Who has the possibility to go into the sauna, is also allowed to go into one.

• If vodka and sauna don't help any longer, illness will lead to death...

• A human is entitled to silence at three places: In chruch, in the sauna and in his grave.

• If you are ill then travel to the countryside - if you want to stay healthy then go to the sauna.
