During the whole year a lot of markets and festivals take place in the several districts and in the city centre of Hanau. All these events recure every year roughly the same time and we composed a register for each month for you to inform you about the events.

For further information about the markets and festivals just ask the staff members at the reception.

Since in February 1303 Hanau received its town charter and the official licence to align a Farmer's market which takes place twice weekly. Every Wendsday and Saturday from 6 a.m. till 2 p.m. you can visit the Farmer's market on the new market place around the statue of the Brothers Grimm.

About a hundred stands you can discover at the Farmer's Market of Hanau, one of the oldest and bissest of Hessen. Exept the common choices of meat, cheese, fruits, vegetable and flowers you can find pickled cucumbers, creme of bear's garlic and wholefood products of the region.

The Farmer's Market of Steinheim takes place every Monday from 8 a.m. till 2 p.m. on the Kardinal-Volk-Platz.

On the place around the Dutch-Walloon-Church since 1999 yearly in the early summer a lot of craftwork is sold by chandlers everywhere from europe at the International Pottery Market. Nearly all you can built of potter's clay you can find there in several colores and designs. It does't matter what you are searching for, ordinary vases and bowles or deceitful real animals, you will find it. Many exhibitors have a stand at the market every year and already got a fixed client base during the years.

A lot of chandlers from several european countries present their craftwork at the Handcraft Market which has taken place for the first time in the summer of 2006 some weeks before the International Pottery Market. You can discover many different things: From objects of utility like wooden bowls and toys up to room fountains, fascinating metal wind chimes or fancy jewellery - you will find something for everybodys liking and purse.

February

In the streets around the new market place is on the saturday before Carnival Monday a big carnival procession on their way through the city. A part of the different sport clubs of Hanau organize their own carnival processions through the several districts of Hanau. During the weekend for 3 or 4 days a  fun fair takes place on the new market place.

May

Because of the first May, an official holiday on the market place will be a fun fair, composed of several fun rides and snack stands.

June

Annual in the district Steinheim a big Johannisfeuer will be lighted on the 23 of June as the crown of the Old Town festival to celebrate the Midsummer Night on the waterside of the Main.

At the historic Old town of Hanau in the streets around the old townhall (Goldschmiedehaus), Marienkirche and the Schlossplatz the Lamboyfestival is celebrated on a weekend before or after the 13th of june because of the deliverance of Hanau during the Thirty Year's War.

August

On the last weekend of August the hessian national beverage, the cider,  can be tasted on a big festival: the „Bundesäppelwoifest“. At this opportunity the "Bundesäppelwoi-king" and his queen get their "royal dignity".

The beginning of the hessian Apfelweinstraße, which runs through several towns of Hesse is in Steinheim.
 

On the first weekend of the month a big choise of national and international wine is offered on the Hanauer wine festival, which has been created by the german actor Günter Strack. Before the nice  backdrop of the Congress Park Hanau (CPH) you can taste all the different wines open air.

September

At the beginning of the month, on the first or second weekend the Bürgerfest is celebrated on the waterside of the Main, near the Schloss Philippsruhe. On the occasion of the rebuilding of the town after the Second World War the event has its beginning in 1957, when the first Bürgerfest started. A mix of snack stands, music, performance and a market with several artisans afford many-sided amusement for everyone.

December

In the different districts of Hanau, for example Steinheim, Klein- or Großauheim, a lot of christmas markets invite you for a little walk around including a hot mulled wine. At the several stands you can't only find something to eat and drink, you can discover a lot of craftwork mostly of the region as well. Most of the christmas markets were restricted to a single weekend.

At the same time the new market place at the city of Hanau changes into a sea of lights from the beginning of december till two or three days before christmas. About 70 various stands present their  products starting at jewelry and pottery up to woolsocks and -caps: certainly you can find there a present for christmas.

Coming along with the christmas market  on the market place a choise of painters and other artisans present and sell their workings in the city hall.

A great event is every year the changing of the city hall into the biggest Advent calendar of Hesse. Every day one of the 24 windows of the building become enlightened and shows a new christmas picture. At least, on the 24th of December all windows of the XXL-Advent calendar are "opened".
